Automated Panel Bender Operator

Position Summary:

Examine blueprints or plans for the finished product, set up and make adjustments to the machine to control speed, material feed and path of mechanisms, as well as make sure the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product. Creates programs independently for production with minimal guidance.

Essential Responsibilities:                                                           

  •  Machine setup and operation to create workpieces
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences
  • Position, adjust, and secure stock material or workpieces against stops or automatic feeding mechanisms.
  • Set machine stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scales, rules, or templates.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or workpieces
  • Instruct other workers in machine set-up and operation.
  • Change worn machine accessories, such as cutting tools or brushes, using hand tools.
  • Notify supervisors when service is required.
  • Extract or lift jammed pieces from machines, using fingers, wire hooks, or lift bars.
  • Record operational data, such as pressure readings, lengths of strokes, feed rates, or speeds.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces, using files, hand grinders, wire brushes, or power tools.
  • Assist Level 1 operators with 1st piece check, programming, loading material, work flow, and quality.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1 year of experience in programming and working in a manufacturing environment
  • Training in general safety, awareness and quality system awareness.
  • Machine setup an maintenance 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.  Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, models, and forming comprehension.

Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills; Good computer skills. Operation monitoring, quality control analysis, critical thinking, active listening, troubleshooting, complex problem solving, equipment maintenance and reading comprehension. Ability to learn by doing.

Abilities: Ability to accurately prepare documents, production sheets and other reports and related paperwork as required by our procedures; Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints; Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion; Ability to apply principles of logical thinking of a wide range of practical problems; Ability to work independently and make independent decisions.

Physical Demands:  While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.  Work might entail significant time spent standing, exposure to extreme temperatures, enduring distracting/uncomfortable sounds and noise levels, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous conditions and equipment. Must periodically lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Employee may be required to climb stairs as needed to access various areas of the building.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus. Overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
